I recently did a project where I researched the history of my town, Aberystwyth. Growing up in a rural welsh speaking community I've grown up hearing the story of the Trefechan Bridge protest and It's importance to the Welsh language. However I had never met anyone who witnessed the protest and I'd never seen any photographs from the protest. It was only until I started doing research for my project that i cam across the most amazing black and white photographs taken on the day of the protest in February 1963.

I've turned the photographs into drawings and mixed media to represent the day of the protest and the people who took part. The protest held by the Welsh Language Society was revolutionary to Wales and it's language, they successfully brought attention to their cause and raised awareness of the Welsh language and it's lack of official status. The Trefechan Bridge protest was the first of dozens to be staged by the society in the following decades.
